A Highlight To Any Copper Canyon Visit,
One Should Not Miss Out On Batopilas
The history of Batopilas is inextricably linked with silver mining. The veins of La Bufa and Batopilas at the bottom of the canyons became world famous.
Batopilas sits just 400 meters above sea level and has a subtropical climate so it is very hot in summer but seemingly perfect weather in winter. Including a visit to this town and the descent to get to it through 4 different canyons is truly a must if you plan to visit here. Batopilas is the highlight truly to any Copper Canyon visit and spending the 3 nights we recommend there will afford you enough time to enjoy amazing canyon hiking at its best.
On any of our private trips that include Batopilas, you'll visit the Lost Cathedral in Satevo, do an optional hike along a section of the aqueduct and the old Silver Trail, or a hike up to an old silver mine (enter at your own risk) with views of the town from above.
Our trips that include 3 nights in Batopilas, rather than 2, you'll enjoy a local 4x4 vehicle experience on the back roads in the canyons and an optional hike from an Indian village to the very summit of a mesa that affords you breathtaking views of two different canyons.
FYI: Batopilas is a very remote town of roughly $1,200 people and being such the electricity does still go out occasionally so we recommend you bring a flashlight with you, or of course your phone can provide a light. There is very little cell phone coverage in Batopilas so chances are you will not be able to make phone calls at all, or check email while you are there. Keep this in mind and plan to have a lovely few days of being unplugged and relaxing on your vacation.
